A few months ago while in my local card store, the helpful employee behind the counter mentioned that their store would be getting boxes of Obsidian soccer trading cards in the near future. Obsidian? Not being a follower of traditional American sports, I wasn’t familiar with the brand from Panini.

After returning to the store the following week to pick up a box and then opening it, I was so impressed by what I uncovered. The beautifully designed Obsidian soccer trading cards were nothing like I’d seen before. Plus, the box was packed with several huge stars including a rare autographed card.

Yes, a box of Obsidian trading cards isn’t cheap (I paid $495 for it in April), but it’s certainly a collector’s item. Many of the cards in the box are numbered limited edition cards. Design-wise, the cards are featured on a black background with etchings in a range of colors. Plus there’s the opportunity to get autographs and memorabilia cards, too.

Each box contains 7 cards:

• Autographs or Memorabilia Cards – 4 Total
• Inserts – 1
• Parallels – 1
• Base Cards – 1

To see what I got when I opened the box, check out the following video:
