Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has revealed why he would prefer to face Real Madrid to Liverpool in the semi-finals of the Champions League.
Chelsea sealed their place in the last four of the Champions League for the first time in seven years on Tuesday, progressing to the semi-finals on aggregate despite a 1-0 defeat to Porto at Stamford Bridge.
Tuchel’s side survived a late scare to progress following Mehdi Taremi’s spectacular overhead kick in stoppage time, where they will face either Real Madrid or Liverpool in the semi-finals.
The Spanish champions hold a 3-1 advantage heading into the second leg at Anfield this evening and Tuchel has revealed why his preference would be to meet Real Madrid over Premier League opposition for a place in the final.
“In general I like not to play against teams from your same league in the Champions League as it gives more of a feeling of a European competition but that is the only thing,” Tuchel told his post-match press conference.
“The game is far from over but I will watch it for sure.
“Everything is possible. Liverpool are very strong at home so we take what we get. It is a good situation for us.”
Next up for Chelsea is their FA Cup semi-final fixture against Man City at the weekend
