Trent Alexander-Arnold has revealed how he has tried to improve his concentration and vision and he bids to bounce back from a challenging Premier League campaign.

Alexander-Arnold will form part of a Liverpool side that will be looking to improve on last season’s disappointing title defence, with the right-back one of a number of players who came in for criticism during a testing season.

The 22-year-old’s rise to prominence had been meteoric over the previous three seasons, securing Champions League and Premier League winners’ medals and establishing himself as one of England’s brightest talents.

However, questions over his form last season and his surprise omission from the England squad for March’s World Cup qualifiers have led to doubts over his defensive abilities, with Alexander-Arnold having now revealed the unique methods he has taken to improve his game.

As reported in The Athletic, Alexander-Arnold has worked alongside Red Bull and the New York-based Dr Daniel Laby to improve his concentration and vision, with techniques including online games designed to improve his peripheral awareness, the wearing of an eye patch and a virtual reality headset.

The defender has now opened up on the work and has revealed his desire to get better and better.

“You start tracking an object and something flashes up which might take your concentration away but you’ve got to keep your focus amidst the distractions,” he explained.

“As you get better, you’ve got to track multiple objects, recognising other things, like balls popping up and identifying their colours.”

He went on to explain how the training can help him on the pitch.

“The main thing for me is, in life — and in football — you can only make a decision based on what you’ve seen,” he continued.

“If I’m on the pitch and I can only see half of the pitch then I can only make half of the decisions available. If I can see the whole pitch and I can see every option available, then I can make the right decision at all times.

“I think it will help my decision-making and that will help me become a better player.”
