Tottenham Hotspur are said to be ‘baffled’ by the recent statement of wantaway striker Harry Kane, as the player denies that he refused to return to training.
The England skipper sparked rumours regarding his future towards the end of last season, having hinted that he was eyeing up a move elsewhere, in pursuit of a first major career honour.
Following his impressive displays for the Three Lions in the knockout stages at Euro 2020, those lingering question marks over his club future have not gone away, a fact that was only heightened when he did not report back for pre-season training on Monday.
That rumoured refusal to train has come amid persistent speculation regarding a possible switch to Manchester City, the champions said to have already had a bid of around £100m turned down in recent weeks.
The 28-year-old has since come out with a statement to suggest that he did not refuse to train, yet that has seemingly done little to appease his current club and its supporters, with the Telegraph reporting that staff and players at Spurs have been left ‘baffled’ by his Twitter statement.
In the striker’s social media post he insisted that he ‘wouldn’t do anything to jeopardise the relationship I have with the fans who have given me such unwavering support during my time with the club’, while he also added that he would be returning to training on Saturday ‘as planned’.

The player had been enjoying an extended break following his England commitments, yet the club are believed to have expected him back earlier this week, with Kane instead making a ‘pit stop’ in Florida after a period in the Bahamas.
That late start to pre-season is likely to see him miss the club’s Premier League opener, which somewhat ironically comes against Man City.
Kane could well be lining up for Pep Guardiola’s side in the coming weeks, however, as the former Barcelona boss hinted that the forward remains their top target, despite Lionel Messi’s potential availability on a free transfer.
City have already bolstered their ranks with the signing of Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish, the 25-year-old sealing a £100m move to the Etihad this week.
