Marcus Rashford looks set to miss the start of next season, with the Manchester United forward in line to have surgery after the upcoming European Championships.
The 23-year-old has been carrying foot and shoulder injuries for much of the most recent campaign, yet soldiered on to remain a key part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, finishing the season having featured 57 in all competitions for the club.
While he still managed to record an impressive 21 goals and 12 assists across all competitions, it wasn’t quite the campaign that the England international was hoping for, with the end to the season, in particular, seeing the player visibly inhibited by injury.
Despite appearing not at full fitness, particularly in United’s Europa League final defeat to Villarreal, Rashford has still secured his place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad and will be looking to play a key role in this summer’s festivities.
With the Red Devils academy graduate desperate not to miss out on involvement in a third major tournament, he is set to delay any required surgery until after the competition ends, potentially leading to the possibility of missing the start of next season, as per the Mirror.
The report outlines how the pacy forward has been carrying foot and shoulder injuries throughout this season and will undergo surgery for at least one of those complaints – likely the foot – when the Euro’s come to an end.
Should the Three Lions reach the final at Wembley on 11 July, that would likely mean he would be unavailable for the start of the 2021/22 season, as there will be just 34 days between the showpiece and the opening game of the new campaign.
Such his desire to play for his country, Rashford appears willing to play through the pain barrier over the course of the next month, despite the possible danger of not being ready for the start of the season with United.
