Aaron Ramsey has reportedly had a re-think on his Juventus future, with a move to Newcastle United potentially back on the cards in January.
The 30-year-old’s two-and-a-half-year stint in Turin looks set to come to an end in the near future, with the midfielder having failed to ever really secure a regular starting berth with the Serie A giants, having originally made the switch from Arsenal on a free transfer in 2019.
Much like compatriot Gareth Bale, the Welshman has largely found solace in turning out for his country amid a difficult spell for his club, having impressed once again in the group stages at Euro 2020, while he also recently starred in the 2-2 draw with Czech Republic, netting a classy finish in the World Cup qualifier.
Such a display illustrated the undoubted quality that he has to offer, with it seemingly time for him to cut short his stint in Italy, despite still having just under two years remaining on his existing deal with the ‘Old Lady’.
As per Italian outlet Calciomercato, the former Gunners man is now considering a return to the Premier League, with newly rich Newcastle said to still be interested in his signature – the midfielder having previously been keen to stay and fight for his place at his current club amid interest from the Magpies in the summer.
The report suggests that Ramsey had hoped to force his way into the plans of returning boss Max Allegri at the start of the season, yet his lack of action has since his altered his thinking, amid rumoured interest from a number of top-flight clubs in England.
While Crystal Palace and Everton have been mentioned, it would appear the Magpies could well be the frontrunners, with the club set to embark on a spending spree in January following their recent £300 million takeover by a Saudi-led consortium.
It has been suggested that Juventus would be willing to forgoe a transfer fee in order to allow him to leave, albeit with any interested party likely to have to cough up a significant amount in order to match his current £400,000-a-week salary.
His departure would likely allow Allegri’s side to secure a much-needed new midfield addition, with the club having been keen on using Ramsey as part of a swap-deal with Wolves star Ruben Neves over the summer, only for the deal to breakdown due to the Welshman’s unwillingness to move.
