Lionel Messi has reached an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain ahead of the forward’s free transfer move to the Parc des Princes.

The six-time Ballon d’Or winner is set to sign a two-year deal with the Ligue 1 side after leaving Barcelona, following the news that the Spanish side were financially unable to fulfil their agreement of a new contract.

Messi had been set to sign a new long-term contract with the Catalan club, though will now continue his record-breaking career in the colours of PSG.

The forward had agreed to a new contract at Barcelona that would have seen his wages decrease by 50%, but the Spanish side confirmed last week that the club would be unable to fulfil the agreement due to La Liga’s financial fair play rulings.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that PSG are the ‘only club’ to have contacted the 34-year-old directly, despite speculative reports of interest from Manchester United, whilst Manchester City had approached the star about a deal in April.

Messi’s move to Paris will see the Argentina captain reunite with former Barcelona teammate Neymar, with the latter having been pushing for the deal to come to fruition.

Messi leaves Barcelona having won 10 league titles, four Champions League trophies and six Ballon d’Or accolades, in addition to scoring a record-breaking 672 goals across 778 appearances.
