Manchester United are set to ‘test West Ham’s resolve’ with a move for Declan Rice this summer.

Rice has attracted interest from several of the Premier League’s leading clubs in recent seasons and has enjoyed an excellent campaign at the London Stadium, captaining the Hammers for much of the season as West Ham secured their highest league finish in 22 years.

David Moyes’ side have secured qualification to the Europa League and are ‘insistent’ that the England international will not be leaving this summer, though the Evening Standard are reporting that the Red Devils are prepared to test the east London outfit with a bid.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to sign a leading defensive midfielder having relied upon a two-man axis of Fred and Scott McTominay this season, the duo used in tandem but not often trusted individually as a sole anchor of the midfield.

Solskjaer spoke following the Red Devils’ Europa League final defeat to Villarreal on Wednesday, reiterating his desire for ‘two or three players’ this summer to improve his side’s starting XI.

Chelsea had previously been linked with a move to sign the 22-year-old during Frank Lampard’s reign, though it is unclear whether the west Londoners interest remains in a player released from their academy as a teenager.

Rice will form part of England’s squad for this summer’s European Championship and is understood not to be in any rush to leave West Ham, especially given the progress the club has made this season.

Talks are also expected between the Hammers and United over the future of Jesse Lingard following England’s Euros campaign however, the former keen to sign the 28-year-old on a permanent basis following a productive loan spell in the capital.
