Manchester United want a deal done for Jadon Sancho before the start of the European Championship and are ‘prepared to commit’ £80m for the Borussia Dortmund star.
Sancho was a leading target for the Red Devils last summer, though a deal failed to materialise with United unwilling to match Dortmund’s British transfer-record valuation of around £108m.
That figure is understood to have been lowered this time around with Dortmund willing to allow the England international to depart, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side once again keen to bring the winger back to the Premier League.
According to The Athletic, United are keen to conclude a deal before the start of the European Championship on June 11, though accept Sancho’s involvement and preparation with England complicates matters.
England face Romania in their final warm-up game on Sunday, before beginning their tournament against Croatia at Wembley on June 13.
Chelsea and Liverpool have also been tentatively linked with signing the 21-year-old this summer, though a move to Old Trafford appears Sancho’s most likely destination.
The report says that Manchester United are willing to commit £80m to sign the player, though Borussia Dortmund are looking to secure £20m in ‘achievable add-ons’.
Sancho has developed into one of world football’s most talented and productive young players during four seasons at the Bundesliga, enjoying a superb end to the 2020/21 campaign to finish the season with 16 goals and 14 assists across all competitions.
United are also understood to be interested in strengthening their backline and have made an approach for Atletico Madrid right-back Kieran Trippier, whilst a new centre-back is also on the club’s agenda with Raphael Varane and Pau Torres both under consideration.
Varane’s future remains unclear with the France international set to enter the final year of his contract at Real Madrid, with reports in Spain having suggested that the United have offered the defender a deal worth more than his current salary in the Spanish capital. Torres meanwhile has won plenty of admirers for his performances for Villarreal, including helping the Spanish side to a Europa League final victory over the Red Devils.
