Manchester City are said to be ‘considering’ offering Sergio Ramos a two-year contract if the defender fails to agree terms over an extension with Real Madrid.
Ramos’ future remains uncertain in the Spanish capital as he enters the final weeks of his current deal, terms yet to be agreed over a new contract for the club captain at the Bernabeu.
Talks are scheduled between the centre-back and president Florentino Perez in the coming days, with a renewal the preferred outcome for the defender ahead of discussions.
Manchester City are understood to be monitoring the situation ahead of a potential move however, with ESPN reporting that Pep Guardiola is considering offering the veteran a two-year deal to move to the Etihad on a free transfer.
Guardiola is said to value the leadership and experience that Ramos would bring to his squad and believes his arrival would benefit the squad, having seen City lose out in the Champions League final this weekend.
The club’s defensive options have been depleted with Eric Garcia set to sign for Barcelona on a free transfer at the end of his contract, whilst Nathan Ake has struggled with injuries during his debut campaign and Aymeric Laporte is said to have been left frustrated by his reduced role this term.
Ramos is said to be demanding a two-year deal to stay at Real Madrid beyond the summer, though the club have so far been reluctant to compromise on their policy of offering over 30s more than single season extensions.
The report says City would be willing to offer Ramos the two year deal that he is after, while they could even offer him a third-year at their sister club in the MLS, New York City.
As for Real Madrid, they have already moved to strengthen their defensive options ahead of next season, signing David Alaba on a free transfer from Bayern Munich, while there are also doubts about the future of Raphael Varane.
