Robert Lewandowski is being linked with a potential move to the Premier League this summer, with Bayern Munich not prepared to negotiate a new contract at present.

Lewandowski has been arguably the world’s finest footballer over the past 18 months and has enjoyed the best period of an incredible career, the forward netting 55 goals in all competitions during the 2019/20 season to fire Bayern Munich to treble success.

The 32-year-old has continued to score prolifically this season and has netted a staggering 36 league goals in just 26 appearances, four short of equalling Gerd Muller’s all-time single-season record in the Bundesliga with three games of the campaign remaining.

Lewandowski is set to finish as the division’s top scorer for a fourth consecutive season and sixth time overall, but despite his extraordinary record, there have been no talks over a contract extension at the Allianz Arena.

The Poland international’s current deal expires in 2023 and SportBild are reporting that the player’s agent, Pino Zahavi, is prepared to discuss a potential transfer should talks not be held on a new deal.

Lewandowski’s status means only few clubs in world football could prise him away from Bayern, the Premier League viewed as a potential destination and one where the forward could be handed an increase in salary.

Chelsea and Manchester United have previously been linked, whilst both Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola and Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp worked with the star during their time in German football.

Lewandowski will be 34 at the time of his contract expiry but remains one of the world’s best at present, negotiations with Bayern perhaps the most likely outcome despite the reports.

The player’s agent has endured a fractured relationship with the club’s hierarchy of late, however, having engineered David Alaba’s impending free transfer move to Real Madrid, and the Bavarian side may be loathed to lose the striker for nothing.
