Harry Kane is rumoured to be ready to boycott a return to Tottenham Hotspur training in order to ‘force’ a move to Manchester City this summer.
The 27-year-old continues to face an uncertain future at the club, having hinted at an exit towards the end of last term, amid what was a turbulent season for Spurs that saw manager Jose Mourinho given the axe.
Despite the club’s eventual seventh-placed finish, the forward enjoyed a stellar campaign on a personal note, finishing atop of the Premier League charts for both goals (23) and assists (14), while he went on to shake off a poor start to Euro 2020 to play a key role in England’s run to the final, netting four times in the knockout stages.
The Three Lions skipper is currently on holiday following his international commitments and it remains unclear whether he will return to his current club to link up with new boss Nuno Espirito Santo or secure a move elsewhere before the season kicks off in early August.
As per the Telegraph, Kane’s England teammates have the belief that their captain may not return to pre-season training with the north London club, in a bid to ‘force’ through a move to Manchester City.
Having spent the last six weeks with the striker, his international colleagues believe that Kane could ‘refuse’ to return to training, such is his desire to leave the club.
The one-time Leicester City loanee currently still has three years remaining on his existing deal, although he insists that he has a gentleman’s agreement with owner Daniel Levy, meaning that the club will listen to bids for his signature this summer.
City have been heavily linked with a £100m move for a player who has already netted 166 top-flight goals, although it remains to be seen whether such an offer will be enough to tempt Levy into a sale.
Should he not budge, it may lead to a sticky situation with their prize asset, who is seemingly desperate to secure a first piece of major silverware and play regular Champions League football, something that, at present, Spurs can not offer.
Both Levy and Santo hold the belief that Kane will stay at the club, as the latter man insisted this week in his first club press conference, although the player appears determined to push for a departure.
