Jurgen Klopp has discussed last week’s postponement of his Liverpool side’s clash with Manchester United, the game called-off after United fans gained access to the pitch prior to kick-off.

Following a longstanding frustration towards Red Devils’ owners the Glazer’s and their recent involvement in the proposed European Super League, United supporters took to the Old Trafford turf on Sunday afternoon in protest, with the game eventually postponed over safety concerns.

The match was initially delayed by the protests, leaving both sides confined to their hotels, before the decision was made to play the game at a later date, the match subsequently being re-arranged for Thursday 13 May.

While that postponement has largely impacted United, who have been forced to play four games in the space of just seven days, the disruption will not have been ideal for the Reds, who are currently in the midst of a battle to secure Champions League football.

Having to re-arrange the fixture was seemingly not ideal for the Liverpool boss, nor was the delay last Sunday, the former Borussia Dortmund boss admitting ‘it was not cool’ to have wait around while the events unfolded, while he also criticised the protest for not being ‘completely peaceful’.

“We were sitting the whole time. An hour before the team meeting they told me there were problems at Old Trafford. We did the meeting and after that we got told about the delays. We just had to sit around in the lobby. It was not cool,” Klopp told a press conference ahead of this weekend’s clash with Southampton.

“I heard some police were injured and these things should not happen. It was not completely peaceful and then it was not right anymore.

“Then we got told the game was postponed. We saw some pictures to see what was going on. Was I surprised to see it happen? No. I am a believer in democracy. I am happy for people to say their opinion, but I know this doesn’t happen often that no-one is hurt.”
