Borussia Dortmund will sell Jadon Sancho this summer if the club receive an ‘exceptional offer’ for the Manchester United target.

Sancho was subject of intense transfer speculation last summer with the Red Devils having made the winger their number one target, though Dortmund’s huge valuation of the player ultimately ensured a deal failed to materialise.

The Bundesliga side were reportedly demanding a British transfer-record fee in excess of £100m, a figure United were unwilling to meet given the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

There has been limited speculation regarding a renewed approach from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side this summer, though Dortmund’s stance on the England international could prompt interest from Old Trafford once more.

Chelsea, Liverpool and former club Manchester City have also been previously linked with moves to bring the player back to the Premier League, having left the latter to join Dortmund in search of first-team football in 2017.

Dortmund have been impacted by the financial pressures of the pandemic and look increasingly likely to miss out on Champions League qualification for next season, sitting fifth in the Bundesliga at present and seven points adrift of Eintracht Frankfurt after defeat to their top-four rivals on Saturday.

Missing out on the lucrative revenue provided by Europe’s elite competition could see the sale of several assets, with Dortmund CEO, Hans-Joachim Watzke, suggesting that Sancho would be allowed to depart if the club were to receive an ‘exceptional offer’ for his services, admitting a big-money bid would be discussed with the player and his agent.

“I’m not getting involved in probabilities, it’s no good,” he told Goal. “Jadon Sancho has been with us much longer than Erling Haaland. We’ll have to speak to Jadon too.

“If there is an exceptional offer we will discuss it with the player and the agent, as always. Nonetheless, I am very sure that the transfer market will only run to a very limited extent this summer.

“Especially at the really big clubs you can see what kind of wounds coronavirus has inflicted, and they are not small ones that heal within two weeks.”

Sancho has scored six goals and provided nine assists for Dortmund in the Bundesliga this season and the winger is expected to form part of Gareth Southgate’s squad for this summer’s European Championship.
