Chelsea are still exploring a potential deal for Erling Haaland, despite Borussia Dortmund’s stance that the forward will not leave the club this summer.
Haaland has been courted by almost every major club in world football following a sensational first full campaign in Germany, the forward scoring 41 goals in just 41 appearances across all competitions to be named as the Bundesliga’s Player of the Season.
The Norway international has a well-documented release clause of €75m in his contract that will become active in 2022, though Chelsea are understood to be exploring the possibility of moving ahead of the competition to sign Haaland during this summer’s window.
Thomas Tuchel is keen to sign a new centre-forward this summer with Chelsea having been linked with both Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku, though the latter’s recent declaration that he will remain with Inter Milan has led the west Londoners to reconsider pursuing their interest in Haaland.
According to the Telegraph, Chelsea have made attempts to see if Dortmund would be interested in the signing of Tammy Abraham in part-exchange, with the England international out of favour at Stamford Bridge and expected to depart.
Dortmund have insisted that Haaland will remain at the club ahead of next season, though Chelsea could test the Bundesliga side’s resolve with an offer in excess of £150m.
Manchester City are also understood to be interested in signing Haaland, though the Premier League champion’s pursuit of Kane could provide Chelsea with an opportunity to make their move for the Norwegian, ahead of anticipated interest from the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona in 2022.
Manchester United are also thought to be keen on reuniting the Haaland with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but could wait until next season with the Old Trafford outfit prioritising additions at right wing, central midfield, and in defence.
