Chelsea have confirmed that Thomas Tuchel has extended his contract following the club’s Champions League triumph.
Tuchel arrived at the west London side in January following the dismissal of Frank Lampard and has overseen an impressive transformation, guiding the Blues to a top-four finish and into the finals of both the FA Cup and Champions League.
The latter of those finals saw Chelsea crowned as champions of Europe for a second time, ending the season with club football’s biggest prize after beating favourites Manchester City 1-0 in Porto on Saturday, courtesy of a Kai Havertz goal.
Tuchel signed an initial 18-month deal when taking the position earlier this year, though has now been rewarded with a new contract with Chelsea confirming the German has penned a two-year extension.
Tuchel has spoken of his delight after reiterating his commitment to the west Londoners and told the club’s official website he is ‘grateful’ for the opportunity to extend his deal at Stamford Bridge.
“I cannot imagine a better occasion for a contract renewal,” Tuchel said.
“I am grateful for the experience and very happy to stay part of the Chelsea family.
“There is far more to come and we are looking forward to our next steps with ambition and much anticipation.”
