liverpool midfielder alex oxlade-chamberlain

Arsenal are believed to plotting a move to re-sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Liverpool, having previously sold the midfielder back in 2017.

The England international rose through the ranks of the famed Southampton academy – making his debut for the club in League One in 2010 – before following in the footsteps of fellow Saints’ youth product Theo Walcott by making the move to north London in 2011.

Part of an emerging crop of young British talent that was ushered in by Arsene Wenger, the versatile midfielder quickly caught the eye for the Gunners, before earning his senior international debut at the end of his first season at the club.

He would go on to help Arsenal secure three FA Cup’s over the next few seasons, before eventually making the £35m move to Anfield, where he has since endured a stop-start spell due to injury, having notably been out for over a year after suffering significant knee damage in April 2018.

While he is once again fit and available, the 28-year-old has slipped down the pecking order under Jurgen Klopp due to such extended lay-off’s and is perhaps in need of a ‘fresh challenge’, with the Sun reporting that his former club are keen to take him back to the Emirates.

The report suggests that Oxlade-Chamberlain is frustrated by his lack of game time at present, having made just two league appearances so far this season, while he was restricted to just 17 appearances in all competitions last term after another long-term knee injury ruled him out for over four months.

While he has just under two years remaining on his existing deal, the Englishman is seemingly keen to move on, with Liverpool not set to stand in his way owing to the current strength of their central midfield options.

‘The Ox’ is eyeing up a reunion with his former teammate and captain Mikel Arteta, with the Gunners believed to be considering an initial six-month loan in January, with the option to potentially make the deal permanent at the end of the season.

Although he is currently on the fringes on Merseyside, the club are believed to want a ‘reasonable fee’ in order to let him leave.
