When assessing the greatest free-kick takers football has ever seen, one name invariably crops into conversation – Juninho Pernambucano.

Juninho’s prowess from set-piece situations is often the abiding memory of his playing career, the Brazilian midfielder having compiled a catalogue of incredible free-kicks.

Widely credited as one of the main proponents of the ‘knuckleball’ technique so popular amongst today’s players, there appeared no distance off limits to Juninho, whose best years were spent scoring set-piece stunners in the colours of Lyon.

He won seven consecutive league titles with the Ligue 1 side and established himself as one of the club’s best ever players, scoring a century of goals with many of those proving to be unforgettably spectacular.

The likes of David Beckham, Zico, Andrea Pirlo and Alessandro del Piero were all fantastic free-kick takers in their own right, but no one ever did it quite like Juninho.

Here are Juninho Pernambucano’s best free-kicks.
